I’m beginning to really dislike Facebook. Really, really dislike it I need a better way to share content that I can not only control better, but that is designed better and is easier to use. Something more personalized. I’m thinking WordPress might be a great place to start. For now, I’m going to work with the free account and use a template for the blog, but depending on my needs, I can opt for more personalization later on down the road. So for now, let’s go WordPress!

It’s a usual Thursday morning, Zoe’s taking a nap and I have a chance to sit in front of the computer and do some sharing. The iMac got a new LCD panel this weekend, but the flickering still persists when the display brightness gets turned down. I’ll find time to bring it in again another day, but as long as I keep it 50% or higher there is no problem. I can live with that for now. I’ve been working on getting our bills organized with a new method: I’m using Bento to track bills, what’s due and when. I also got the app for my iPhone so I can glance at our situation at any time, statement and all. I’d highly recommend looking into Bento for any kind of information organization. I’m using it for bills, car maintenance, keeping track of my employees’ development and a home inventory for insurance. For a total of $55 ($50 for the desktop application, $5 for the iPhone one) it’s an investment that pays itself off immediately. Well, back to scanning!

Live from the iMac

So after going back and forth and back and forth I finally made up my mind about what kind of computer to get to replace the aging 17″ G4 iMac – A 27″ iMac! Even amidst the horrors of yellow and flickering displays, I wanted the big, bad king of all-in-ones. Much to my disappointment, my iMac does exhibit moderate flickering at low-brightness settings when waking from sleep (no, the two firmware updates did not fix it, but thanks for asking anyway) and AppleCare has been great about addressing the issue and helping me to resolve it. The thing isn’t unusable after all; the problem only rears its ugly mug in the most specific of situations. Nonetheless, the iMac is awesome. I’d rather watch Hulu while I cook (my computer room is right off the kitchen) than live TV in the living room – it’s that good. Especially if you’re running Plex, something I refer to as Front Row on steroids (sorry MLB). Get it now if you don’t have it yet!
